Bala Vikasa To Host G20-C20 South India Regional Round Table on ‘Delivering Democracy’

Over 40 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from South India will discuss the way forward for strengthening democracy, especially focusing on gender equality, participation, transparency, and accountability in governance

Hyderabad, 10h June 2023: Hyderabad is set to host another prestigious event as part of India’s G20 Presidency. Bala Vikasa, the South India Coordinator of the Civil20 Working Group on ‘Delivering Democracy - Retrospects and Prospects’ led by the Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM), is organizing the South India Regional Round Table for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on the 12th of June at the Bala Vikasa Center for Social and Responsible Business (CSRB) Campus in Keesara, Medchal. 

Representatives from over 40 CSOs from the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Pondicherry will meet to discuss the challenges and strategies to enhance gender equality, participation, transparency, and accountability in governance for building strong democracies. 

Speaking of the round table, Shoury Reddy Singareddy, Executive Director of Bala Vikasa said, “Throughout our journey of Community-Driven Development work in India, we have experienced first-hand the positive impacts of women-led action, active community participation and collective responsibility on socio-economic development and good governance. We are looking forward to discussing with other Civil Society Organizations on how these ideas could be leveraged for strengthening the democratic nature of our governments and institutions.”  

Civil 20 (C20) is the official engagement group providing a platform to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to voice out people’s aspirations to the G20 Nations. “Through this round table, we are trying to gather perspectives, experiences and native models from CSOs highlighting challenges and solutions to democracy and governance. We will use these inputs to formulate well-anchored strategies and action plans for strengthening democratic processes,” said Dr. Basavaraju R Srestha, Executive Director of GRAAM.
